Wildlife & Species At Risk

The Land Between is a refuge for wildlife that is increasingly being lost, and for the already 59 Species At Risk. Click on the images below to learn more about each one!

A Diversity of Species

The Land Between is a meeting place for species from both the south and the north reaching their upper and lower ranges respectively. It is also reptile country! With the bounty of rock and water in the region, this landscape is the last stronghold for Ontario's reptiles, which are the most ancient creatures in the world and the most endangered!

Here are a few of the species that call The Land Between home!

SPECIES FROM THE SOUTH

The Land Between is at the northern limit for many species in Ontario (eg: White Oak, Woodchuck, Cottontail, Green Heron, Chorus Frog, Cardinal...)

SPECIES FROM THE NORTH

The Land Between is also at the southern limit for Shield species (eg. Grey Wolf, Moose, American Raven, Jack Pine, River Otter...)

ASSOCIATED SPECIES

Many species rely on The Land Between for their survival, especially reptiles. 100% of the five lined skink sub-species reside here! Many of these associated species are also Species at Risk.

Species at Risk

The Land Between is working tirelessly to conserve these species as well as ensure others are not added to the list.
