Title: “The Land Between: How our Ecotone Holds a Key to Ontario’s Climate Crisis”
The Land Between is the area in which you live, work, and play. This region extends from the Georgian Bay Coast to the Ottawa Valley, and it is the last intact wilderness in southern Ontario. It is also a land of hope, as this meeting place between ecoregions and species can act as a buffer against the impacts of climate change – that is, if it is kept intact. How can an understanding of the unique ecology and culture of our region enable us to support local conservation and restoration efforts? How can we respond to global issues proactively from our incredibly important location in central Ontario?
Leora Berman is the founder and head of The Land Between, an organization that works to research and conserve the ecological, cultural, and socio-economic features of the region in which we live. She has been leading large scale ecological projects for over twenty years, working with governments, charities, and industry partners. She is the 2019 recipient of the Canada Wildlife Federation’s Roland Michener Award for outstanding achievements in wildlife research and conservation.
