Nightjar Survey Training

May 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Whippoorwills and Common Nighthawks are known as Nightjars- very unique and shy birds that are active at dusk- and are amazing aerial insectivores that eat over 10,000 mosquitoes and also large moths each night! These mysterious and loveable birds are declining rapidly in Ontario. Nightjar surveyors travel in pairs along specified routes to listen for these cryptic birds during their most active breeding season, around the full moon in late May/early June.  This workshop is for volunteers who have registered as Nightjar surveyors, and will teach individuals how to identify bird calls and complete observation sheets to help biologists monitor habitats and populations.
