Hiring Fish and Wildlife Research Biologist and GIS Specialist

Join our team of professionals working to research, conserve, and protect Southern Ontario’s last true, intact wilderness, and wildlife in North America!

These roles are supported under the Canada Youth Employment Strategy. Candidates must be under 30years old to qualify. The Fish and Wildlife/Herpetology position is on-site in Haliburton, Ontario. These are FT contracts starting at 8months, with the possibility of extension. Remuneration is based on experience.

Fish and Wildlife/Herpetology Research Role Description

This is an on-site, contract role based in Haliburton, ON, for a Fish and Wildlife Research Assistant. The successful candidate will support conservation efforts by conducting field research, collecting and analyzing data. Responsibilities include assisting with ongoing ecological studies, preparing research reports, collaborating on habitat restoration projects, and communicating findings to support public engagement and education initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong Research and Analytical Skills
  • Proficiency in Data Analysis, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Laboratory Skills related to wildlife and ecological research
  • Effective Communication abilities for reporting and collaboration
  • Knowledge of local ecosystems and conservation principles is an asset
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and perform fieldwork tasks
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or similar tools is beneficial
  • Education in Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, or a related field
