Freshwater Stewardship Webinar Series. Planning for our Shorelands
My name is Christopher Dennison and I am currently serving as the Municipal Policy Intern at Watersheds Canada. I am pleased to be featured as the third speaker in the free Freshwater Stewardship Community webinar series. Please join me on Saturday, March 13th at 10am EST for my webinar, “Planning For Our Shorelands: A resource to help conserve the Ribbon of Life in Ontario’s Municipalities”. Ontario is home to a diversity of freshwater lakes and rivers, each surrounded by a series of unique shoreland ecosystems. Given the importance of shorelands to humans, wildlife, and the physical environment, sustainable land-use practices in Ontario’s municipalities will be critical for protecting the shores of our lakes and rivers now and in the future. Planning for our Shorelands is a collaborative project bringing together expert planners, scientists, and lake stewards from across the province. Its objective is to provide a meaningful best-management practices resource which promotes sustainable shoreland land-use practices and policies in Ontario’s municipalities. In this free webinar, I will present on the importance of lake and river shoreland ecosystems, share results from a series of surveys which gauge the current state of shoreland stewardship and land-use in Ontario, and discuss the future of the Planning for our Shorelands project.
Planning for our Shorelands is possible because of the guidance from an amazing project Steering Committee, which includes experienced planners, conservation authorities, and lake stewards. Thank you: Barbara King (Watersheds Canada), Janet Taylor (White Lake Preservation Project), the LUSH Charity Pot, the Daniel and Susan Gottlieb Foundation, the ImpAct Internship Program, Mark Snider, Glenn Tunnock, Terry Rees (Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations), Mary Rae, Leora Berman (The Land Between), Katrina Furlanetto (Cataraqui Conservation), and Danielle Lachance.
I look forward to seeing you there! Christopher Dennison |
