What We Do

The Land Between charity is a grassroots non-governmental charity working to achieve wellbeing for today and future generations.

Our Vision

A healthy & prosperous planet for future generations

A healthy intact living bioregion, where ecosystems provide essential functions, habitat for all levels of wildlife, and retain the intrinsic capacity for renewal

Cultural vitality where perspectives, worldviews, and practices are animated, shared and celebrated. This vibrancy expresses and also informs who we are in the region, both distinctively and collectively.

Community leadership that is respectful, demonstrates humility, and is responsive.

A sensitive, integrated and sustainable economy that is cyclical and supportive of future generations through the ability to reciprocate to nature, the land, and the creativity that has provided for it's success.

Our Strategic Actions

Foundational research Expand

Conducting ongoing and pioneering research projects to inform applied actions and solutions in all areas of ecology, economics, and culture. Research projects are integrative and iterative, investigating issues and impacts across sectors in order to understand how each parameter influences the other. Focus areas include biodiversity, development impacts, fish habitats, lake health, cultural assets and features, and more. Visit our Research page.

Collaborative conservation and applied solutions Expand

Working with partners at all levels across jurisdictions to apply meaningful solutions in the form of stewardship actions in priority areas.

Facilitating sustainable economic development and cyclical economies Expand

Promoting eco-based, cultural and agricultural tourism and a regional identity through marketing the unique assets and providing new opportunities and technologies to explore and celebrate the Land Between, including the Land Stories App, documentary, book, events and destination development. Mapping key agricultural lands and encouraging new farmers, best practices and capacity for local markets. The Land Between also works to promote new skills and knowledge in the third largest sector of building construction and maintenance and to advance green building technologies, permaculture, and reduced footprints.

Education Expand

Engaging youth and landowners in learning through community science and volunteerism, mentoring, and the  development of course curriculums, through workshops, and presentations. Also we provide opportunities for hands on, applied learning in research and stewardship projects.

Planning input and support Expand

Providing information and data that result from our relationships and research to support decision-making for landowners, community groups, consultants, and governments; ranging from natural heritage strategies, cultural plans, to Official Plans and Federal documents. We provide forums of exchange, access to experts, case studies and community leaders/models.

Cultivating relationships and networks to share knowledge Expand

Engaging community members, experts, groups, and governments; gathering and sharing information, expertise, and diverse perspectives towards comprehensive understanding of issues and needs. Operating in a Traditional Talking Circle open to the public, without hierarchy. Providing a bridge across divides, a think tank, and knowledge.
