Sustainability & Living in the Land Between
Humans have always been a part of nature, not separate from it, however we are prone to forget this. Nature has provided us with all we have needed to survive from the beginning of time — from air, to water, food to shelter. As our population has grown and people have moved to urban centres, many of us have forgotten the above truth. This forgetfulness has led to unsustainable lifestyles where we are often unaware of alternatives. Today, we can change this together by learning more about sustainable living, doing our best to think about how the effects of our actions extend beyond humans and choosing to respect nature.
Living in the Land Between: A How-To Series
Here at The Land Between we have conducted literature reviews, compiled resources and written some articles to help year-round and seasonal residents, both new and veteran, learn more about living sustainably within this very special region. Each of the topics of this series influences the health of ecosystems and wildlife, so it is of grave importance that we learn how to minimize our impacts on them while also enjoying our time in the great outdoors! Many of us have come here, to cottage country, to escape from the city and enjoy this land's wildlife, forests and lakes, so let's work together to keep it pristine and natural!
Building Between: Green and Local Building
Sustainable and eco-conscious building design is important for maintaining the integrity of our natural systems and minimizing our ecological footprint, while ensuring the infrastructure is healthy and durable for future generations.
Our Building Between - Eco-innovation effort works to provide property owners and developers with access to information, resources, local experts, green building solutions and permaculture know-how (architectural design that reflect and use earth processes)- in order to transform mainstream development styles into more sustainable and respectful solutions that support local economies.
