A Diversity of Species
The Land Between is a meeting place for species from both the south and the north reaching their upper and lower ranges respectively. It is also reptile country! With the bounty of rock and water in the region, this landscape is the last stronghold for Ontario's reptiles, which are the most ancient creatures in the world and the most endangered!
Here are a few of the species that call The Land Between home!
Species from the South
The Land Between sits between the Canadian Shield and the St. Lawrence Lowlands and is at the northern limit for many species in Ontario such as White Oak, Woodchuck, Yellow-throated Vireo, Cottontail, Green Heron, Chorus Frog, Cardinal, Common Crow, White tailed Deer and others.

Species from the North
The Land Between is also at the southern limit for Shield species such as Grey Wolf, Moose, American Raven, Jack Pine, River Otter and others.

Reptiles
Many reptiles call The Land Between home, including the five-lined skink, Ontario’s only lizard. 100% of its subspecies reside in the area!
