- Assessed Food Security issues and opportunities across the region relative to Ontario and Canada

Culture and Identity
- The Land Between, Encounters on the Edge of the Shield book which chronicles and features cultural heritage assets across the region
- 4 years of research to produce the Land Between documentary series
- Production of the My First Shot movie, to explore the history and culture of hunting

Indigenous and Local Knowledge
- Supported the development and operations of the Curve Lake Cultural Centre from 2006 to 2018
- Worked with Indigenous elders and knowledge holders to chronicle and assess the history and status of the American Eel
- Worked with Curve Lake First Nation and Canadian Archives to create the Land Stories map; an interactive cultural map related to our shared history within the region
- Worked with Indigenous communities to gather and share traditional knowledge (internally and externally) related to Species at Risk
- Founding and incubating an Anishinaabeg Land Trust for Canada
Biodiversity
- Created a comprehensive Species at Risk Conservation strategy for the region
- Modelled a Conservation Blueprint of high priority lands for securement, stewardship and restoration for the region
- Modelled suitable Species at Risk habitats across the region for snakes, birds, turtles, and the eastern wolf.
- Worked with harvesters and biologists to understand the issues related to the wolf and hybrid
- Created habitat stewardship plans for landowners across 600 acres- and ongoing effort
- Researched insect biomass for Nightjars and aerial insectivores - ongoing effort
- Researched road mortality rates, local population trends, hotspots for turtles at risk- ongoing effort
- Installed a pilot turtle underpass fencing project in Gooderham
- Installed Motus tracking towers for birds
- Incubated and released at site ~30000 turtle hatchlings
- Created 10 community science programs to advance skills and gather data across the highlands
Impact by Numbers
Turtle eggs rescued and hatchlings released across Blandings, Snapper, and Painted turtles.
Meters of shoreland naturalized to restore habitat, reduce erosion, and protect our waters.

Our major successes from 2021
2021 was a year of growth for The Land Between charity! We grew our staff and as well as our roster of projects and were able to make undeniable progress to preserving this globally unique landscape. All of our projects have been made possible through the hard work of our COO Leora Berman, our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, partners, funders, donors and you!
