CONSERVATION, RESTORATION AND STEWARDSHIP Ontario Stewardship is a program of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources providing Stewardship Coordinators and resources to Stewardship Councils made up of landowners and land interest groups who support environmental priorities in the county. Conservation Ontario: Conservation Ontario is the umbrella organization for the 36 Conservation Authorities across Ontario. Conservation Authorities help protect and manage water and other natural resources. Funding assistance and restoration programs may be available in your area. Ducks Unlimited one of the earliest and most recognized conservation organizations in North America, works to secure, enhance and restore wetlands and wetland wildlife in Canada and around the world. Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations (FOCA) is a non-profit, voluntary organization representing over 500 Ontario cottagers’ associations. FOCA serves as an information centre and provides leadership on issues affecting cottage properties. Volunteer For Nature is a program of Ontario Nature, offering hands on and guided experiences in restoration and applied conservation. Annualschedules are available. Ontario Woodlot Association is a non-profit organization with a network of regional chapters who promote sustainable forestry practices in private forests. Ontario Forestry Association is a not-for-profit charity offering workshops, guiding you to professionals and providing education and awareness to support sustainable forestry. The Trent Severn Waterway is involved in species recovery and shoreline restoration through their Waterway Wildlife program. Muskoka Watershed Council in partnership with the sister organization, the Muskoka Heritage Trust, are committed to healthy and sustainable practices within the watershed of Muskoka District. They undertake projects to secure significant site, prioritize efforts, offer best practices and state of the resource reports: Forest Gene Conservation Association undertakes reforestation, forest conservation and tree improvement and genetic research. Forest industries, seedling growers and tree nurseries, conservation authorities, forestry associations, First Nations, conservation groups, are members. Individuals may also be members. Trees Ontario provides engages in tree planting, provides education and supports sustainable practices to increase the forested landscape of Ontario: Society for Ecological Restoration, a global restoration network of over 2000 members providing resources to promote the best practices in ecological restoration. Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is a leading conservation organization dedicated to protecting habitat and conserving fish and wildlife. The Federation promotes education, leads restoration projects and has thousands of members. Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and Ministry of Natural Resources, Invasive Species Program Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre (KTTC) is involved in the recovery of Ontario turtles. The Centre saves injured native turtles and releases them back into their natural habitat. For turtle drop-offs, the Centre is located in Peterborough, Ontario. - TOP -
HANDS ON! Ontario Field Ornithologists offers expert-guided field trips, check lists, memberships. Field Botanists of Ontario offers field trips throughout Ontario, workshops and memberships. Volunteer For Nature is a program of Ontario Nature, offering hands on and guided experiences in restoration and applied conservation. Annual schedules are available at: Local Naturalist Groups: Toronto Zoo AdoptAPond Program provides workshops, identification guides, monitoring programs and research for the conservation, restoration and creation of wetlands. Kids for Turtles: an outreach educational organization that provides opportunities for young people and their families to interact with nature in a positive environment. The group’s goals are for increasing public awareness about the importance of preserving natural habitats and protecting species. Sciensational Sssnakes!! provides hands-on education about reptiles and amphibians. Participants are able to interact, touch and hold live animals that are safe and easy to handle.
